EARLY ALUMNI

Oakdale Prepatory School at Harrogate College

Oakdale, built in 1903 in Harrogate by Alderman David Simpson, became a preparatory school in 1916 under Miss Jones. It flourished for decades with its own staff, dormitories, and traditions. Additions were made in the 1930s, and it remained active during WWII while Harrogate College was evacuated. Due to changing education trends and high upkeep costs, Oakdale closed in 1968. It was sold, modernised, and renamed Oakdale Manor, but later fell into disrepair and was eventually demolished, despite local efforts to save it.
