Pupils, staff and parents at Harrogate Ladies’ College experienced an explosion of colour this week as the school hosted its very own Colour Run in aid of Leeds based charity, Behind Closed Doors.

The Colour Run took place on the school fields and was organised from start to finish by Year 11 pupils at the school.  Year 11 pupil, Lucy Mulligan said,

“We wanted to organise something that would be really fun and memorable, but would also raise a lot of money for charity.  A Colour Run seemed like the perfect solution.”

Behind Closed Doors is a Leeds based charity that works with men and women who are affected by domestic abuse and violence.  The pupils chose to support this charity to help raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence as Lucy Mulligan explains:

“Domestic violence isn’t really spoken about and so we wanted to do something to change that.  The Colour Run seemed a great way of doing something positive about something negative.”

The Colour Run raised over £700 for Behind Closed Doors.

Fran Irvine, Head of Middle School said,

“It was an incredible way to start the summer. The girls’ spirit and enthusiasm was infectious and the school field was a riot of colour. The girls should be very proud of what they’ve achieved and of the difference it will make to the charity.”
