The evening was an opportunity to look back at a successful year of sport at the school which included being crowned U12 and U14 Harrogate & Craven District Netball champions; U12 and U14 Harrogate & Craven District Rounders champions; and U12 and U14 Ashville Cup Tennis champions.

The school has also had a highly successful year on the Lacrosse pitch being runners up in both the U14 North Schools Lacrosse championships and in Division 2 of the National Schools Lacrosse championships.

Individual performances celebrated on the evening included: County and Regional Netball squad selection; North Yorkshire U15 and Yorkshire Women’s Cricket team selection; and Yorkshire, North of England and England Girls Academy Lacrosse selection.

Special recognition also went to Lottie McGuinness, who won 10 medals including 3 Golds at the National Dwarf Games in Birmingham.

Awards were presented on the evening by members of the Yorkshire Rows who are 4 working mothers who rowed 3000 nautical miles across the Atlantic earlier this year.  It took 67 days to complete the journey which the women undertook in order to raise money for charity and to inspire children to take on challenges themselves.

Nicky Butters, Director of PE at Harrogate Ladies’ College said,

“Sporting success is all about challenging yourself to achieve that little bit more; to go that little bit faster; to push that little bit harder.  The Yorkshire Rows are a fabulous example to us all of what can be achieved when you do just that and we were delighted that they were able to join us to present this year’s Sports Achievement Awards.”

“We’ve had a fabulous year of sporting success at College and the girls should be really proud of what they’ve achieved both individually and as teams.  We’re looking forward to celebrating more achievements next year!”
