Harrogate Ladies’ College Swiss Exchange

Harrogate Ladies’ College recently welcomed a group of Swiss Exchange Students to experience life at a girls-only school. The 11 pupils from Oberwalliser Millelschule St Ursula, in Brig, Switzerland, were hosted in Harrogate by girls currently studying GCSE and A Level German.

The new language exchange was set up by Harrogate Ladies’ College German department, and was hugely valuable from a linguistic, cultural and also social perspective.

During their visit Swiss pupils spent two days in a range of lessons with their Harrogate Ladies’ College counterparts, took part in a Lacrosse lesson and joined in with various evening activities including a film and pizza night, a Swiss quiz night and a group meal at a local restaurant on the final evening.

The exchange programme included educational day trips to York, Leeds, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Mining Museum in Wakefield.

Mrs Joanna Griffin, Head of German said:

“All the girls and staff involved found it to be a fun and rewarding experience and are looking forward to the return trip to Switzerland, planned for October. There was only one complaint from the Swiss pupils – that the visit was too short!”
