The Chapel Choir is drawn from the senior girls at College and accompanies the schools Chapel services. The choir also performs outside of College on a regular basis with past performances in Barcelona Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral and York Minster.

The Evensong service at Durham incorporates many different elements such as Responses and the Psalm and the members of the choir had to work hard in preparation for the service to learn and perfect each element.

All the music sung was by British composers. The Responses were by the sixteenth century composer Thomas Tallis, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis were written by Herbert Sumsion in the early twentieth century, and the anthem ‘Love Divine’ was by contemporary composer Howard Goodall.

Director of Music at Harrogate Ladies’ College, Kate Morgan said:

““It was a real honour to be invited to Durham Cathedral. The girls worked hard to prepare for the service and they were very polished on the evening. They should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. They were particularly excited when they realised they were performing in a location from the Harry Potter movies!  A huge thank you to the parents and staff who came to support us and also to the former pupils now studying at Durham University who came along also”.
