Residential Visits

HLC has always believed in the value of fostering independence and practical resilience.  An excellent way of doing this is through residential visits.

Highfield’s activity-based residential visits are an ideal opportunity for pupils to experience the unfamiliar in a safe setting. New challenges and team building exercises help the girls and boys form yet closer bonds. Through the experience of living together and tackling new challenges the values held high at Highfield such as sharing, caring for others and individual responsibility are enhanced.

Prep 3 children enjoy an overnight stay in Nidderdale.  Prep 4 undertake visits to the North Yorkshire Moors, where their team-building activities include orienteering and a seashore study. A year later they are well prepared for a 5 day visit to the Lake District where they complete an exciting course of traditional outdoor activities including hill walking, rock climbing, sailing and gorge scrambling. The Prep 6 visit combines educational and linguistic challenges and pupils currently enjoy a week long visit to Normandy, which enhances their study of World War Two and allows them to practise their spoken French.
