Sport at Highfield Prep School

We love sport at Highfield – it’s a key part of what we do.  All of our children enjoy 3 hours of timetabled sport each week with specialist PE teachers, including weekly swimming lessons from Reception.

We play competitive sports from Year 3, including inter-house and inter-school competitions against many local schools in traditional sports such as rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey and rounders.  Inclusion is a key part of our sporting ethos and all children from Year 3 upwards are given opportunities to represent the school in fixtures.  We have an excellent track record of sporting success and we love to celebrate our victories as well as learn from the occasional defeat.

In addition to timetabled sports, we have a host of extra-curriculum sports clubs which are open to all children and sports squads which children are invited to join such as:

  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Cricket
  • Running
  • Fencing
  • Gymnastics
  • Athletics
  • Yoga
  • Cheerleading
  • Golf

Visit the Clubs and Societies section of our site for more information.

Exceptional Sports Facilities

One of the benefits of being part of a family of independent schools is that we enjoy access to a range of sporting facilities that are not typically available to younger children.  Our sports facilities include:

  • Purpose built sports hall
  • Extensive outdoor sports fields
  • Tennis courts
  • Swimming pool
  • Netball courts

The combination of specialist PE teachers; excellent sporting facilities; and dedicated time for sport, means that our children have the opportunity to discover their individual sporting talent and develop a love of sport which will last them a lifetime.
