Music at Highfield

The celebration of music in all its forms is an integral part of life at Highfield Prep School.  All children within the school have weekly music lessons with our specialist Music teacher from Reception onwards.

We love to sing and we have 3 large choirs, each with more than 50 members, in addition to other smaller singing groups.  We are also a nationally recognised “Sing Up” Gold Award School.

In Prep 3 and 4, all children enjoy group recorder lessons in order to develop musical notation.  Many of our children also choose to have individual music lessons and they can choose virtually any instrument that takes their fancy!  We currently have around 100 individual music lessons taking place each week from piano, to woodwind, to strings and even the harp.  Our choirs and orchestra enjoy great success at the Harrogate Festival and our orchestra takes part in the annual Prep Schools Orchestral Day at Uppingham School.

As well as performing regularly within school, we are committed to sharing our love of music with the local community and beyond.  We regularly sing and perform at local nursing homes and we have performed concerts at York Minster, Goldsborough Hall, Manchester Arena and the switch on of Harrogate Christmas lights, to name but a few.

We aim to share our passion for music with all of our children and give them the opportunity to discover their own individual musical talent.
