“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Coco Chanel
The Textiles department aims to provide a vibrant and creative experience where girls can develop a range of practical and technical skills.
On entry to the School, girls follow a three year foundation course which starts with the essential use of the sewing machine, combined with the creative skills of appliqué, trapunto, quilting and free machine embroidery. These skills are combined with various printing techniques and are used to produce a waistcoat or cushion and a “bag for life.” In Upper 4 (Year 9) a variety of products are made including dressing up clothes for Bankfield Pre-Prep.
Textiles may be chosen as an option for GCSE and the course combines designing and making garments with an awareness of the environment and sustainability. Internal Assessment is an important component of the course. Textiles is a popular A level choice which combines both Art and Textiles techniques to create exciting textiles products.
Study trips include The Knitting and Stitching Show at the Harrogate Exhibition Centre and a visit to Venice for A level pupils.
