“Drama is like life with the dull bits cut out.” Alfred Hitchcock
Drama is a unique way of experiencing the world we live in. It helps to develop us as individuals and as a community. The aim of the Drama department is to offer all students the opportunity to develop their self-confidence, imagination, creativity and ability to work within a team.
In the first years of secondary education, Upper 3 to Upper 4 (Years 7-9) all girls follow a core course that develops practical skills through improvisation and a number of performance projects ranging from Shakespeare to Greek Tragedy.
For GCSE we offer the AQA Drama course which is assessed through a combination of diverse practical performance options and written examination.
In the Sixth Form AQA Drama and Theatre Studies GCE A level offers a natural progression from GCSE, providing the
challenge of studying set texts whilst learning how to appreciate critically theatre design, direction and technical elements in practice.
There are regular theatre trips and extra curricular activities include a Lower School drama workshop and annual school production that involve a large number of pupils both as performers and backstage.
The department has an attractive Proscenium Arch stage within The Small Hall which provides a flexible and engaging performance space for all parts of the School.
