The Arts

The Arts are generally defined as those activities requiring imaginative skills, contrasting with scientific technique or principle. In this 21st century the borderline between the two is very blurred.

At Harrogate Ladies’ College there is a wide range of activities which exercise the girls’ imaginations, and many more they devise themselves. Click on more for further details about the subject or activity.

Art enjoys a magnificent purpose-built room overlooking the sports field. It collects natural light from three directions and is very popular with girls of all ages. The facilities include a pottery room, firing kilns and etching press.

Textiles shares much with D&T and Art in its work and approach. Gone are the dressmaking days. It’s much more about creating all kinds of art from fabrics, which might include clothing, but by no means exclusively.
