Fantastic examination success for 2007...
We were delighted to have confirmed in the newspapers recently that we achieved the best A level results of any independent school in North Yorkshire, with an amazing average of 991.4 points per girl. Almost half our A level grades were grade A and 79% were grades A or B. If all schools in North Yorkshire are considered, not just independent schools, we have the second best A level results in the county.
We were just as pleased with our listing for GCSE results: the second best in Harrogate and sixth highest in the whole of North Yorkshire - a real achievement if we consider that our overseas pupils sat the examinations in their second language.
On average, Harrogate Ladies' College adds value of almost one and a half grades to every girl's expected achievement at GCSE, in every subject, based on baseline assessment tests on entry to the school.
Great News!
Three girls in U6 received extra special letters over Christmas, from admissions tutors at
Oxford University.
Fabien Yip has received an offer to read for a degree in Engineering Science and Christina Gao, to read for a degree in Physics, both at New College. Helen Liu has been offered a place at Somerville to read for a degree in Mathematics and Statistics.
Fabien modestly comments that she never considered applying to Oxford until she came to study in England; now she welcomes the opportunity and recognises what a wonderful learning experience awaits her. Christina’s love of Physics has been obvious from the moment she joined our Sixth Form; her advice to others is “study a subject you’re truly passionate about.” Helen tells us that her interview involved solving maths problems from the moment she walked into the room – but helpful tips were given by the tutor throughout so she didn’t feel too daunted!
We share the girls’ excitement and congratulate them on their achievement.

"Congratulations to all our U6 girls who have achieved an impressive set of A Level results. The overall pass rate of 99.45% is a further improvement on last year’s record breaking results and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both girls and teachers. The excellent grades ensure that most girls now go on to their first choice universities.
Two students were particularly excited to be offered scholarships to their chosen American universities. Weishi Kong will study Chemical Engineering at Louisiana State University and Chelsea Lindsey goes to Sonoma State University in California to follow a course in Communication Studies.
This particular year group made a real contribution to the school community and were a pleasure to know. They leave with the staff’s very best wishes as they take the next step towards their chosen careers with excitement and confidence."
