Harrogate
–
a fantastic location…
Harrogate is
part of the “golden
triangle” Leeds-Harrogate-York.
20 miles north of Leeds and 20 miles west of York,
Harrogate is a spa and floral resort, a gentle town
where the gentry
in the 19th and early 20th centuries visited to “take
the waters”. The Pump Room still exists close
to College, but only the strongest constitution would
drink
the sulphurous water now! There grew up large and impressive
hotels to cater for the visitors and these now form
the backbone of the town’s main industries – tourism,
exhibitions and conferences. 19th century Bradford
mill owners built splendid houses in Harrogate and
these remain,
giving the town a similar feeling to Cheltenham and
Bath. It is these very houses which became boarding
houses
for the College pupils.
Harrogate is the ideal location
for a school. We have open country within ten minutes
walk, town centre and
shops
also within ten minutes. For access, Leeds/Bradford
International Airport is 8 miles away, Manchester
Airport is 90 minutes
away, trains take under two hours from Kings Cross
to York and the M1/A1 motorways come to Wetherby,
8 miles south
of the town. Universities and cathedrals at York,
Durham, Leeds and Bradford are all close to hand. Professional
theatre and opera are based in Leeds and the girls
take full advantage of these and other cultural opportunities. |
