Since the 1900s, the philanthropic support of Harrogate Ladies’ College parents, staff and alumni have helped to create a school that fosters and enhances the learning and development of our students both in and beyond the classroom. Donations of musical equipment, refurbished décor and upholstery in libraries and common rooms, chapel pews and auditorium seating, all so generously given by our alumni, ensure we can continue to provide an environment for our pupils to thrive. We would like to thank all those who have helped us in the past.
SMALL HALL REFURBISHMENT Project
Now attention has turned to the Small Hall, a venue for many drama and arts performances over the years. Maintenance on the floor and walls, repairs to lighting and doors, and blackout blinds will restore this space to its former glory, and we are calling on your generosity to help us raise money for this project.
Before the 1960s, this space was known as the Gymnasium; the picture above shows it as it was in the 1920s. Once the current Assembly Hall was built in the late 1950s, gymnastics, rope climbing, vaulting and other activities were moved to there, and the ‘Small Hall’, as it became known, was instead used for productions and performances.
Donors to theatre projects are often known as Theatre Angels. Any amount you could donate would be a huge help. Perhaps you want to ask for donations in lieu of a birthday gift, to celebrate a special anniversary, or remember someone special. Or maybe a group of you want to celebrate a particularly memorable production with a donation. As well as receiving our sincere gratitude, Angels will be listed in the Small Hall on a special artwork created by pupils and credited on the College website (unless you prefer to remain anonymous), and receive updates on the refurbishment work.
You can donate via bank transfer (please get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org for bank details) or by cheque, made payable to ‘Harrogate Ladies’ College’ with the reference Alumni Small Hall Donation on the reverse, sent to Alumni Relations, Harrogate Ladies’ College, Clarence Drive, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG1 2QG. Please include your contact details so that we can thank you and recognise your generosity.
