Residentials

Highfield has a holistic approach to education and a key element of this is our extensive residential programme that runs throughout the whole of key stage 2 gradually increasing in duration and difficulty. Through the experience of living together and tackling new challenges the values held high at Highfield such as sharing, caring for others and individual responsibility are enhanced.

The programme begins in Prep 3 when the pupils venture up the local valley of Nidderdale staying overnight and exploring the countryside from under and over ground! Prep 4 go further a field to spend a weekend in the North Yorkshire moors where their team building activities include orienteering and a seashore study. A year later they are well prepared for a 5 day visit to the Lake District where they complete an exciting course of traditional outdoor activities including hill walking, rock climbing, sailing and gorge scrambling. After studying hard for entrance exams prep 6 are always keen to travel abroad in the summer term for whatever foreign location and challenge their class teachers have planned for them that year. Visits have included physical pursuits in the Dordogne and Cultural visits in Rome.

Highfield pupils always appear to return from these experiences with enhanced self esteem and even more zest for life.
