Highfield Parents and Friends Association
The Parents and Friends committee is made up of a team of sixteen parents at the school, across all of the years, consisting of four officers – a chairperson, vice chair, treasurer and secretary – plus a further 12 parents. We are supported by 14 class reps – one for each class so that every child's age group has at least 2 parents representing them. We are all volunteers who are voted onto the committee at the AGM which takes place in early September. Prior to the meeting we ask, via the weekly bulletin, for parents to volunteer. The AGM is open for all parents to attend.
Our primary function is to organise social events and raise funds for additional items or activities for our children – equipment or experiences that are extra to the normal timetable or equipment provided by school. We organise various activities that are aimed at the whole family such as the September Clover Cup BBQ and the Christmas Fayre. For the children we have discos and a Secrets Room (where they pick a Christmas gift for mum and dad) as well as some fun filled nights especially for parents such as the Race and Quiz Night and a biannual ball.
We also have a team who sell used uniform on behalf of the parents. A percentage of the money that we take is deducted and the remainder comes off your child's school fees. We all meet twice a term, along with Mrs Cameron, to discuss the forth coming activities as well as voting on how the funds should be spent. The suggestions come from teachers and parents as well as the children. Over the past few years the Parents and Friends Association has been incredibly successful in raising over £30,000 which has been used to put interactive whiteboards in all our rooms and also to pay for an adventure playground for all the children to use.
Anyone who is interested in joining the committee or who would like to be a class rep we will be looking for recruits early September. |
