Life at HLC is BUSY!  Our weekly Bulletin gives a small taste of what goes on both inside and outside the classroom. Although it informs existing parents of what we do with our time each week, it will also give anyone visiting our site an idea of life at Harrogate Ladies’ College. We hope you enjoy opening the door into our school. (You can open or download the latest weekly bulletin PDF format by clicking on the picture on the left. School News

Our School Report gives a small taste of what goes on both inside and outside the classroom.

SPORT GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Last year the College was pleased to announce that the U14 Netball Team had qualified to compete in the County Round of the National School’s Netball Tournament.

This year, the School has gone one better - not only did they qualify for the tournament, they went on to win! Last Saturday in poor, windy and wet conditions the girls played with great spirit and commitment to win 6 and draw one of their matches. As the day went on they gained in confidence and by the end of the day they had scored an incredible 79 goals and conceded only 25. This convincing victory gave them the U14 North Yorkshire County title and they go forward into the Regional Championships at Wickersley School and Sports College in January.

College’s Lacrosse players continue to gain top honours. Camilla Hay has been selected to play for Scotland U19 and Hannah Lowther and Fabienne Johnson have been selected for the North U19 squad. All 3 girls will be playing in the Territorial Lacrosse Championships being played at Oxton on the Wirral on December 5th and 6th.

Swine Flu H1N1

Dear Parents

This policy has been developed in the context of Health Protection Agency advice on school closures and the expertise of our own Health Centre and school doctor. As a boarding school we must be prepared, if necessary, to quarantine students at risk or who cannot easily be placed in the care of a guardian or sent home. For communication with all parents and guardians we would use phones, e-mail and fax as well as placing information on the school website.

Procedures should a student or member of staff be confirmed as suffering H1N1

  1. We should be guided by our GP and the Health Protection Agency.
  2. It is likely that, having undertaken a risk assessment procedure, the school would close temporarily and at once for a period of seven days and where possible appropriate work would be set.
  3. Special arrangements would be made for public examination candidates who are well. Pupils with influenza like symptoms would not be permitted to attend.
  4. The HPA and the school Health Centre would identify those most at risk and offer medication; they would then closely monitor the situation.
  5. Boarders who had to remain in school would do so with appropriate staff in a designated boarding house with Health Centre staff in attendance.

More information on Swine Flu can be obtained from the HPA website: www.hpa.org.uk or via the national information line: 0800 513 513.

Every home in the UK should have received a leaflet with information about Swine Flu.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Wilkinson
Headmistress
