Young Enterprise
The College has a tradition of encouraging all L6 students, whether studying A-level Business or not, to participate in the Young Enterprise scheme, in which students group together to form companies to develop, manufacture, market and sell products and/or services. This is undertaken in a formal manner, registering the name and directors’ names of each company with Young Enterprise in the same way as companies in the UK are registered with Companies House.
The companies operate for an academic year, towards the end of which they wind up, producing a comprehensive report and final accounts which are presented to a substantial audience and judged in the Young Enterprise UK Competition, in which the judges also consider the layout of the company’s trade stand and the quality of individual directors’ answers to penetrating questions about company operations. Girls are also encouraged to enter the Young Enterprise examination to capitalise upon the practical knowledge gained by achieving a further recognised qualification.
The College believes that participation in this real-life company management scheme, provides an excellent practical insight into business. In addition, of course, the Young Enterprise experience adds considerably to the extra-curricular activities which can be included in personal statements and CVs in applications to universities and potential employers. |
