Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award provides the girls with an opportunity to get involved in an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development, which is highly regarded by both universities and employers.
To complete the Award the girls must commit themselves to activities in four different areas
- Service (helping in the community)
- Skills (a hobby or interest)
- Physical Recreation (sport, dance or fitness)
- Expedition (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot
Before starting an activity, the girls are encouraged to set their own goals. If they aim for those goals and show improvement, they will achieve their Award.
There are three levels of the Award; Bronze, Silver and Gold, with each level demanding more time and an increasing degree of commitment and responsibility. The Gold Award also involves a residential project, which requires the participant to get involved in an activity or enterprise outside of school.
At HLC the girls may join the Award at the Bronze level in Lower 5, or they can join at Gold level in the Lower 6. |
