Six Form Information 2010 - 2012
The transition from Year 11 (Harrogate Ladies’ College U5) to Year 12 (L6) is almost a “rite of passage”. Decisions taken now and options pursued will help to determine your future career(s).
I write ‘careers’ in the plural for two reasons. Firstly, because research shows how unlikely it is for most people to be in the same kind of job at 60 or 65 as they were at 21; secondly because young women who take career breaks to start a family may not always be able to climb back upon their original career ladder.
All the more important, therefore, that you take your time with these decisions, that you take advice, that you do your own research, that you talk to people a year or two older than yourselves.
You need, of course, good teachers and excellent facilities. You need to feel comfortable in your chosen study environment – it should be a “home from home” without some of home’s distractions. You need to be encouraged to develop your study skills among a peer group that aims high but always in the knowledge that, close to hand, you can find support from experienced and dedicated professionals.
We are here (almost 24x7x52!) to help you make these all-important decisions and to realise your potential – and not just in academic terms. These two years will develop your social skills and prepare you for the big step into Higher Education.
And – the Sixth Form can be fun, whether in taking responsibility, making new friends, expending energy on the sports field or the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Ask one of our sixth form helpers today!
