Tower House
Our Upper Sixth girls benefit from spending their last year in school living in Tower House. This rather special boarding house provides a transitional year between school and university, therefore previous rules are relaxed to enable girls to become more independent. The running of the House is based on trust, the motto being "if you abuse it, you lose it"; with trust comes responsibility and greater maturity. The girls learn to appreciate this and it works well.
The daily routine in Tower is rather different from that in the other boarding houses, the aim being to prepare girls for life at university. The girls are responsible for getting themselves up (although the member of staff on duty is still occasionally needed to ensure that no-one is late to school!) and for managing their own bedtimes. They prepare their own breakfasts and eat in House rather than in the school Dining Room. At the weekends, they plan their own menus and prepare their own evening meals. The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl of Tower work out a rota each term and girls on duty are responsible for checking the common rooms and kitchen for tidiness.
Uniform is worn until 4.30pm during the Autumn and Spring terms. In the Summer term, smart home clothes may be worn in place of uniform.
Girls are allowed an evening out on Wednesday, and either Friday or Saturday evening and they may take two weekend Exeats each term.
Visitors are welcome in the evenings (until 10.00pm), and on Saturday afternoons and Sunday afternoons. They must be introduced to the Housemistress and entertained only in the kitchen, common room or visitors’ room, with the agreement of the other girls.
Bedrooms are modern and have facilities for study, with internet access. |
