Sixth Form Information Event
Every year in November we hold a Sixth Form Information Event, intended to give present and prospective girls and parents a real flavour of all that is on offer at Harrogate Ladies’ College.
The event spans a Friday afternoon and the following Saturday, allowing all aspects of life in our Sixth Form to be ‘tasted’. The Friday programme provides girls with the opportunity to attend 8 different information sessions, during which Heads of Department outline subject content and expectations at AS and A2 level. In the evening, the Upper Sixth entertain girls with supper and a light hearted quiz. Those who are interested in boarding have the chance to look round the accommodation and learn about the routines of a sixth former.
The following day, a formal presentation by staff and sixth formers gives girls and parents more information about the important changes that occur as the next step of the educational journey is taken. Talks cover a range of questions concerning academic, pastoral and extra curricular matters. For example:
- How does the As/A2 curriculum work?
- How do I choose my subjects?
- Will I enjoy them?
- Will my choices open the necessary doors at university and for a career?
- Will I have my own study?
- What responsibilities does a sixth former have?
- What other opportunities do I have outside the classroom?
- What if I’d like to board in the sixth form?
Following the presentation, visitors may look at departmental displays and talk to subject staff about courses and choices. After lunch, there is the opportunity to tour the school and look particularly at the Sixth Form Centre and the sixth form houses.
The two years spent in the Sixth Form at Harrogate Ladies’ College are undoubtedly exciting and challenging; they are a highly fulfilling time academically but they also ensure our young women leave us with a wide range of skills and interests that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. |
