The committee aim to encourage good and open communication between the students, parents, staff and governors of our College by organising social events for all members of the College community and supporting extra-curricular activities for our students via fund raising activities. Each family pays a voluntary contribution of £10 per term.

The committee meets several times per term, usually on Monday evenings, in the Sixth Form Centre. The whole association meet for their AGM in the Autumn Term, details of which can be found in the summer report post.

The College

One of our most successful evenings is the annual Bonfire and Firework evening in November attended by many parents, friends, staff and students of all three schools that make up the Harrogate Ladies’ College campus.

A lively Robbie Williams Tribute band, attended by various ‘Angels’ was a great success.

We have also provided refreshments at the Advent Service and at the House and School drama productions.

The Parents

Our recently introduced ‘new’ parents brunch on the first morning of the academic year has proved a great success. It provides parents with the opportunity to meet other parents of their daughters’ class/year and it enables parents to exchange telephone numbers and e-mail addresses so we can all keep in touch.

We have also organised several lively evenings for parents, most notably, the Wine Tasting Evening, a Quiz evening and most recently a Race evening. These evenings provide a great social opportunity for parents and are actually quite fun! We are hoping to organise a Parents’ Ball in May 2009.

The Girls

Each year group has an activity tailored to their age and is based upon the following format usually held after school.

U3 Pots to Go – An afternoon of creative fun in the art department decorating bisque blanks followed by pizza.

L4 Film Show – an after school trip to the cinema depending on what’s showing or DVD shown on wide screen at school followed by pizza, popcorn, ice-cream and candy floss (or any combination of the above!)

U4 Salsa Evening – an evening spent learning these new dance steps so you can impress on the dance floor followed by more food!

L5 Makeover Evening – Be pampered with an evening of Nail, Hair, Beauty and Skincare. Even have your colours analysed!!! With yet more (healthy) food!

U5 Bowling and Pizza – What better way to unwind after your mock GCSE’s than with an afternoon of bowling followed by more pizza and chocolate fountains in your own common room!

L6 and U6 Sixth Form Ball - Celebrate the end of year/school with a special themed Black Tie ball at one of Harrogates premier hotels including a sit down 3-course meal and dancing to a live band till the early hours, complete with photographers and magicians.

Recent themes have included Hollywood, James Bond, Vegas, Fairytale, Under the Sea and Glitz ‘n’ Glam.

As you can see the committee are kept very busy co-ordinating this hectic programme. If you are interested in becoming involved either on the committee or just helping at an event or have any ideas or suggestions please be in touch via the school office or e-mail at enquire@hlc.org.uk and we would be very happy to contact you.
