Chapel
A daily gathering of the school community in Chapel is very much at the heart of College life. The Christian ethos of the school encourages students to develop an awareness of their own spirituality. Worship is rooted in the Anglican tradition but is conducted in a way that is sensitive to the diversity of cultures and religions represented within the community. Key points in the year are marked with larger scale services in which many girls take an active part. Particularly memorable are services to mark Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas, Easter and Commemoration. Visiting speakers ensure that girls encounter a variety of approaches to matters of faith. The speakers always express a willingness to make return visits since they appreciate the attentive and reflective atmosphere in Chapel. On Sundays, the boarding community experiences a range of different styles of worship. Day girls, parents and friends of College are always welcome to join us.
Girls are offered various opportunities for spiritual growth and for nurture in the Christian faith. A Quiet Room is permanently available in College for prayer and reflection. Evening prayer is said regularly and there is a mid-week celebration of the Eucharist. A variety of discussion and study groups meet as appropriate. Those girls who feel ready for confirmation into the Church of England take part in an annual Emmaus Group. |
