1898 Miss Jones (Headmistress 1898-1935) ÒWhen Miss Jones was offered the position of Headmistress at Harrogate LadiesÕ College, it took her some time to consider whether she should take it. Her final decision was made on a journey Ð a walk with a friend, during which she resolved to make up her mind about the post. On reaching the garden gate, she looked down to find a small horseshoe shamrock brooch on the ground at her feet. She wrote her acceptance letter that very evening Ð the first step on her journey of 37 years as the SchoolÕs Headmistress.Ó Throughout its distinguished history, Harrogate LadiesÕ College has educated its pupils for life. Like life, education is a journey through many challenges and decisions. HLC provides a journey in itself and a staging post for its continuance into the wider world.
